Polarization Cell Replacement Decoupling Device (DCD)

High-performance decoupling engineered for demanding AC mitigation and modern CP environments.

The Cathtect USA DCD is a solid-state polarization cell replacement engineered for the most demanding cathodic protection and AC mitigation environments.  Designed to isolate DC while providing a continuous, low-impedance path for AC fault, lightning, and steady-state currents, the DCD delivers the highest level of performance in Cathtect’s decoupler family.  Its advanced multi-stage filtering architecture provides sharper attenuation of unwanted frequencies, reduced harmonic interference, and more stable system behavior under fluctuating AC conditions.  Built for critical infrastructure, high-risk environments, and regulatory-driven installations, the DCD offers a maintenance-free alternative to electrochemical polarization cells – delivering superior AC mitigation, cleaner signal paths, and reliable DC isolation across the full operating range.  As the modern standard in decoupling, the DCD redefines what a polarization cell replacement can be.  While legacy solid-state decouplers rely on basic filtering and older design philosophies, the DCD introduces lower RMS voltage drop, enhanced filtering precision, and more consistent mitigation stability.  It is the modern alternative for operators who expect more from their decoupling systems – more precision, more transparency, and more performance.

Description

The DCD is the decoupler engineers choose when performance matters more than legacy familiarity.

The DCD represents Cathtect’s highest level of engineering for decoupling and AC mitigation.  Unlike conventional decouplers that rely on basic filtering, the DCD incorporates a multi-stage filtering architecture that delivers sharper attenuation of unwanted frequencies, reduced harmonic interference, and more stable performance during AC faults or lightning events.

This advanced filtering directly reduces RMS voltage drop across the full operating range – improving pipeline safety, lowering AC corrosion risk, and enhancing mitigation efficiency.  The DCD’s coordinated internal technology safely diverts high-energy impulses, protecting internal components and extending service life even in high-risk lightning environments.

Engineered for pipeline risers, above-ground transitions, metering stations, terminals, and regulatory-driven installations, the DCD provides the most robust combination of DC isolation, AC continuity, and surge resilience available in Cathtect’s product family.

Additional Features:

  • Solid State Technology
  • Slow Turn on
  • Volt Drop across the Device – ( Does not Short Circuit) “effective ground fault path” as defined by National Fire Protection Act, article 250.2(USA). Once “on”, current flowing through the device will not keep the device conducting if the voltage falls below the predetermined threshold.
  • Meets NFPA 70 requirements & guidelines.
