We supply specifically developed porous ceramic electrode housing tubes and contact plugs that eliminate drying out problems to ensure low contact resistance to earth providing you with the most accurate and reliable readings. The “ STAPERM “ model features a unique chloride ion trap that prevents the contamination of the electrodes electrolyte enhancing the service life of both the copper-copper sulphate and zinc-zinc sulphate electrodes. The electrodes have a minimum service life exceeding 30 years and an infinite shelf life!
- Reference electrodes are used in the measurement of potentials and are more typically used where there needs to be a constant and stable reference potential reading.
- Stationary / Permanent and Portable options for underground, concrete encased and water application
All Reference electrodes are colour coded for ease of cell type
Each of the portable and stationary are available in 3 Categories:
1. Copper Sulphate Reference Electrodes (Yellow)
Copper sulfate reference electrodes are most applicable in underground and freshwater cathodic protection applications.
copper-copper sulphate
(for soil 200 ppm chloride or less)
Special size upon request.
Reinforcing rods: 1/4″ x 3″ PVC@ electrode end.
Lead Wire: Standard 30’ of #14 AHH-AHW.
Design life: 30 years.
Stability: + – 5 millivolts with 3.0 microamp load.
Temperature Range: 32″ to 132″F (0″ to 57.2″c)
2. Silver Chloride Reference Electrodes (Blue)
Silver Chloride (AgCl) Reference Electrodes best used in high chloride conditions and cathodic protection applications including soil, seawater and concrete.
silver-silver chloride
(for soil 200 ppm chloride or higher)
Special size upon request.
Reinforcing rods: 1/4″ x 3″ PVC@ electrode end.
Lead Wire: Standard 30’ of #14 AHH-AHW.
Design life: 30 years.
Stability: + – 5 millivolts with 3.0 microamp load.
Temperature Range: 32′ to 130’F (0″ to 65.5’c)
3. Zinc Sulphate Reference Electrodes (Red)
Best used in soil environments or underground cathodic protection applications where the salt concentration is at a minimum or very low.
Zinc is the most stable of any of the permanent type reference electrodes.
zinc-zinc sulphate
(for soil 200 ppm chloride or less)
Special size upon request.
Reinforcing rods: 1/4″ x 3″ PVC@ electrode end.

Temperature Range: 32″ to 132″F (0″ to 57.2″c)
4. Thru-hull mounting assembly
- Specialty reference electrode
- Designed for thru-hull applications of boats or storage tanks.
- Depending on the chemistry chosen ( Cu;Zn;Ag), it can be used in both fresh water and/or high-chloride water service (such as the ocean).
- Where access to acquiring readings is limited or there is a risk of contamination due to the presence of oil or other chemicals
The thru-hull mounting assembly is designed to provide easy installation of special submersible “STAPERM” reference electrodes. Each electrode comes complete with test lead junction box, electrode sealing system and 3/4″ N.P.T. threaded fitting for mounting directly through the structure wall. The electrode can be readily removed and re-installed from the exterior of the tank or hull structure (not under pressure).
Specifications:
• Minimum 20 year service life
• 1/2″ x 6″1ong teflon tube mounted in high pressure packing
gland with 3/4″ N.P.T.
• pressure rating 350 PSI
• Stability + – 5 millivolts with 3.0 microamp load
• Temperature limit140o F
• 3/4″ NPT Stainless steel pressure gland
